AnsweredIt would be great if we could upload closed caption tracks and link them to videos.

Silly question - What type of file would the closed caption be?

This request really should have been called subtitles support instead of closed captions as my goal would be to provide translation text and not descriptive language.
Here’s a really great article comparing the most common formats.

I think most of our use cases would be served by the very basic formats like SRT.However, as you introduce more complex scenes such as interviews and panels, the formats such has WebVTT and Timed Text Markup Language would be nice to help differentiate speakers.

We use .SRT files that we download from from REV.com & Rask.AI

Thank you for this additional insight! I will add this information to the product card in the roadmap for our team to discuss.

We just had two people attending a group that are hearing impaired and they asked if Playlister has a Closed Caption feature.

Thank you, Tyler, for suggesting closed caption support! We know this would be a valuable feature. After reviewing it, we’ve found that it has a larger scope than expected due to a few challenges:
1. Apple TV Limitations: Apple TVs don’t handle external subtitles easily, so making captions work smoothly requires extra development.
2. Sync & Performance: Ensuring captions stay in sync with videos without causing playback issues adds complexity.
3. Multi-Language & Styling: Supporting different languages or styling options would expand the scope even more.
With our limited development resources and over 60 feature requests in the pipeline, this is challenging to fit into the roadmap. However, we’re exploring if AI tools could help streamline part of the process, which might make it more feasible in the future.
