Crop Images & Exposure Adjustment in Preview Window
AnsweredWe had a Limited Creator upload a square aspect ratio image to a playlist this past weekend which displayed smaller than they expected with black bars on the side of the image to fill the screen. It would be nice to have a feature for users to Crop Images in the Media Preview Window so the image becomes either 16 x 9 horizontal or 9 x 16 vertical aspect ratios. Exposure adjustment would also be a nice feature to have in the Preview Window for darker iPhone photos.

To implement this, we’d need to scope the corresponding Apple TV work to ensure the updated image formatting displays correctly on screen. Our team will review the requirements and determine the best approach to include these features in a future update. I’ll keep you updated on any progress we make. Thanks again for your thoughtful feedback!

A cropping feature in Playlister would have really helped us this past weekend. Our Church did a community serve event on a Saturday and about a dozen different locations had 3-8 photos to upload each, but many iPhone photos were taken in 4:3 aspect ratio or vertical. We needed to take the photos through a third party website to crop all of the iPhone photos to 16:9 aspect ratio before uploading to Playlister for Sunday morning to avoid large black bars filling the negative space and the subjects being smaller and not filling the frame.

Hey Tyler,
Thanks for sharing this. That’s a super helpful real-world example. Totally hear you on the iPhone aspect ratio issue. We’ve had a few similar requests & your use case really helps make the case stronger. We’re actively exploring ways to bring cropping and basic editing into Playlister, and I’ll make sure your feedback is added to the ticket. Appreciate you being in the trenches and helping shape where we go next.
